About Us

Tableland Adventure Guides – TAG, was formed in early 2010 when the need for a locally based, regionally supportive Outdoor Adventure Company was recognised. This recognition came after a number of years of hiking, cycling and kayaking adventures in the regions National Parks, State Forests and lakes and the development of an intimate association with its wild places and natural wonders. The TAG team are acutely aware of the uniqueness of their surroundings and are excited about sharing the outstanding natural assets of the region with you.

TAG is an incorporated company and holds $10,000,000 Liability Insurance cover. All activities have the relevant permits.

Educational, ethical and other considerations

Education and interpretation

In support of the Australian and Queensland Government’s obligations ‘to protect, conserve, present and transmit the World Heritage Area to future generations’, TAG proposes to offer a program of professional interpretation as part of our guided tours focusing on the natural and cultural values of the areas, with topics such as biodiversity, impacts of climate change, local management issues and sustainable land use practices. Our personal knowledge base will be supplemented with information sourced from local experts, professional guides with whom we have associations, Traditional Owners and the relevant management agencies. Map-based information will be developed for use by our clients.

Monitoring and recording

During our outdoor adventures we propose to develop and maintain a ‘wildlife diary’, based on a log sheet for recording wildlife sightings, weather conditions and other information of interest to our clients and the managers (eg. vegetation condition, weeds, feral animals, site impacts etc.)

Sustainability
In keeping with national ecotourism principals TAG’s proposed adventure activities will have minimal impact on the environment and should benefit the local community. Features of our ‘clean and green’ approach will include:

  • Sustainability principals integrated into all activities and client interpretation.

We have a minimal carbon footprint ethic with travel based mostly on ‘manpower’ – hike, bike and kayak, with total carbon emissions to be calculated and offset in local TREAT plantings where possible.

  • Fuel-efficient diesel vehicles used where possible and serviced regularly.
  • All adventure activities and camping in particular comply with requirements of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – DERM, Wet Tropics Management Authority – WTMA, Sunwater and Qld. Main Roads and Transport, Marine Safety Qld.
  • Waste minimised and ‘carried out’ or managed in accordance with park requirements.
  • Public toilet facilities used where possible.
  • TAG respects the amenity of other users of park facilities and camping areas with policies including minimal noise, discreet camping etc.
