Join TAG on Tropical North Qld’s premier, multi day hike and kayak expedition! Encompassing diverse ecosystems of the Wet Tropics with 3 days of fully supported hiking and 1 day of kayaking. We journey through World Heritage forests, climb panoramic tropical peaks, immerse ourselves in pristine waterfalls and mountain streams and kayak the serene waters of Lake Tinaroo!
DAY 1 – an 8 am courtesy shuttle from Cairns takes us through the beautiful Davies Creek National Park to Dinden Camp 5 – our secluded camp for the next 2 nights. After a refreshing drink we enjoy a leisurely 8 km hike around the Turtle Rock Circuit trail – see map and details at http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/davies-dinden-bare-hill/about.html. On our return we set up camp, followed by a cool swim in the pristine Vartch Creek and enjoy the evening around the campfire accompanied by good food and beverages.
DAY 2 – an early breakfast allows a cool start on the Kalpahilm Rock Circuit trail which is regarded as one of the regions premier hikes – see map and details at http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/davies-dinden-bare-hill/about.html. On this challenging 15km hike we pass through a range of beautiful forest types and at the summit are rewarded with outstanding views of the Coral Sea, Bellenden Ker Ranges and Lake Morris. The return circuit to the camp is a gentle downhill stroll in shade – you have deserved your swim and restful evening around the fire.
DAY 3 – today’s 15km hike traverses the Vartch Creek Track which is characterised by dense, pristine, upland rainforest. We stop for afternoon tea at Mount Edith lookout which offers outstanding views over rainforest clad ranges, then descend to meet the vehicle for a short shuttle to School Point Campground. On arrival we enjoy a cool swim in Lake Tinaroo before setting up camp with TAG’s unique flavour. For details on Danbulla NP and Lake Tinaroo see link at http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/danbulla/about.html.
DAY 4 – we indulge in a lazy start with a nourishing breakfast before breaking camp. Our day is at a slower pace as we enjoy a leisurely paddle up remote reaches of Lake Tinaroo, taking time to view wildlife, swim and relax as we make our way to Tinaroo Falls village. Our expedition ends with a farewell lunch and shuttle back to Cairns by 4pm.
