Yungaburra’s Big 5 on a BikeJoin TAG on a relaxing 12 km ride and see the highlights of Yungaburra Village and the Wet Tropics. Start and Finish at Yungaburra Visitor Information Centre opposite the Lake Eacham Hotel. |
Biking Herberton Range – Three Quarter DayThe trip starts just outside Atherton in open eucalypt forest and involves a steep ‘heartstarter’ before we enter into beautiful rainforest canopy on an undulating to steep track. We are able to swim in a small creek about half way along before we exit onto the Herberton Range Road. We take a short walk to an outstanding disused rail tunnel before we transfer to Hasties Swamp, a large seasonal wetland renowned for its diverse bird populations. Here we enjoy a light meal before returning to Yungaburra. |
Biking Danbulla Forest Drive – Three Quarter DayThe features of this trip are the amazing Cathedral Fig tree, the Crater lakes Mobo and Euramo and the cool mixed rainforest canopy we cycle through. There are opportunities for a swim in Lake Tinaroo and associated creeks. We have morning tea at the beautiful Kauri Creek where cool, pristine water flows from the hills. The vegetation changes to more open eucalypt before we exit at the Tinaroo Dam wall for a short walk and views of this impressive structure. We enjoy a light meal in the village before returning to Yungaburra. |
Biking Lamb Range Circuit – Full DayThis superb ride takes us into Danbulla State Forest as we cycle under heavy rainforest canopy for much of the steady uphill climb. The Mystical Kalorama Rocks offer a cool, refreshing swim before we push on to the summit. The Mount Edith Lookout is a 40 minute return walk and offers magnificent views over Queensland’s highest mountains and the Coral Sea. We stop for morning tea here before cycling on downhill to the headwaters of Emerald Creek where the landscape changes to eucalypt forest with huge Rose Gums. The features of this ride, apart from the stunning forest, are the uphill and extraordinarily long downhill runs. We return to Kauri Creek for a well deserved cool swim and late light lunch before returning to Yungaburra. |
Biking Half Day VenturesTAG also offers numerous easy half day “off main road” rides of between 20 and 40km. These include return trips from Yungaburra via the Curtain Fig Tree, Malanda Falls and Lake Eacham. |
